A Ragcoon is a first generation cross between two of the largest and gentlest domestic breeds: one parent a Ragdoll, the other a Maine Coon. Ours come from our own Ragdoll queens (Snowflake for the Chocolate Litter, Dorothy for the Vikings) and Balder, a silver tabby Maine Coon stud we chose for his temperament as much as his looks. The name is simply the two breeds folded together; it is not a registered pedigree breed, and we never pretend otherwise.
What the cross tends to give is a big, semi longhaired cat with the Ragdoll’s people centred calm and the Maine Coon’s curiosity and chattiness. Coats vary more than in a pure litter: silver kittens are often born looking nearly black, and the silver shimmers through from around ten to twelve weeks as the adult coat grows. Eyes can be gold, green or blue.
Colourpoint coat that is born white and develops its points over the first weeks; blue eyes always; silky coat with a lighter undercoat; the famous floppy, follow you round temperament; slow to mature over three to four years. Ours are £850, from five generations of Ragdoll bred to Ragdoll recorded in house.
Bigger on average, with hybrid vigour; coats and colours vary (silvers, tabbies, tuxedos) and often carry the Maine Coon’s thicker, slightly water resistant undercoat, ear tufts and plumed tail; eyes gold, green or blue; the Maine Coon’s playfulness and trilling voice alongside the Ragdoll’s affection. Ours are £600. Both are raised the same way, in our home, to the same health standard.
What they share matters more than what differs: both leave here health checked, microchipped and registered to you, litter trained and socialised with children, dogs, ducks, hens and one peacock, with the same 14 day guarantee and the same support for life.
