No fence? No problem

We build the whole boundary, from bare ground up

Lots of gardens have a hedge, a low wall, an old fence on its last legs or nothing at all. That is where our landscaping background comes in. We set the posts, build the fence and fit the cat barrier as one job, so it all works together from day one.

  • Old fencing and hedging removed and taken away
  • Posts concreted in, gravel boards to stop digging
  • Fence and cat barrier designed together, matching gates built in
How we build new fences
1. Set out

We mark the line, check levels and dig for posts.

2. Build

Posts set in concrete, boards and gravel boards fitted.

3. Cat proof

Barrier, corners and gates fitted, then escape tested.

How the barrier works

Cats climb up brilliantly. They cannot hang upside down.

That is the whole trick. The overhang leans into your garden at 45 degrees, so the only way past it would be upside down. They try, they think better of it, and they drop back onto the lawn.

  1. 1
Height first. Many cats can jump about 1.5 to 1.8 metres, so we bring the effective height to around 2 metres.
  2. 2
Then the overhang. Steel brackets carry taut mesh at 45 degrees inward. No grip, no way over.
  3. 3
Then the details. Trees, sheds, gates and corners get their own guards, because a cat always finds the weak spot.
Why a cat proof garden

Outdoor life, without the worry

45.6%

of deaths in UK cats aged up to eight were road traffic accidents, the single biggest cause in the Bristol Cats study.

Source: University of Bristol, 2025

1.8m

is how high many healthy cats can jump. We build to an effective height of about 2 metres with an inward overhang.

400+

cats were scored in a University of Lincoln study. A controlled outdoor space improved their welfare, and their owners worried less.

We think like a cat

Six places cats really escape

A barrier is only as good as its weakest spot. On every survey we check these, then design them out.

  • 1
Trees near the boundary. Anything within about 1.8m is a ladder. We fit a tree guard or take the barrier around it.
  • 2
Sheds, bins and log stores. Instant step ups. We fit shed guards or bring the line inside them.
  • 3
Gates and side alleys. Self closing gates, gate toppers or a double door airlock.
  • 4
Gaps under fences. Closed with gravel boards or a pegged mesh skirt.
  • 5
Corners and height changes. Where most cats test first. We fit dedicated corner brackets.
  • 6
Neighbouring walls and roofs. We design around anything a cat could jump down from or across to.
Our story

Cats first, garden second

Purr & Panel comes from Pretty Ragdolls, our family Ragdoll home in Ryde. Sixteen Ragdolls share our house and garden, and we want them home safe every evening.

So we built around them: a catio they share, quiet corners to explore, and the pond and bird areas kept apart so cats, ducks and chickens all live side by side. With a background in landscaping, the posts, timber and groundwork came naturally. What we learned was how cats really test a boundary: the tree by the fence, the bin by the gate, the corner nobody thought about.

Every garden we build, we build as if our own cats were going to live in it.

Landscaping background

Groundwork, posts, timber and drainage done properly, so it lasts. Bare ground is no problem.

Cat people first

We live with sixteen Ragdolls. Every design starts with how cats really climb, jump and test a boundary.

No standard kit sizes. Bracket spacing, gates and catios are measured and built for your garden.
